HVAC Owner’s Guide (Maintenance, Registration & Troubleshooting)

This guide covers common owner maintenance, product registration basics, troubleshooting checks you can do before calling for service, and key safety warnings.

Proper maintenance

Our systems require maintenance and repair by a properly trained service technician. Do-it-yourself repairs on an in-warranty unit may void your warranty.

1) Replace the air filter(s)

A clean filter helps support top system efficiency.

  • Use the same size and type that was originally supplied ([fact missing: Air filter replacement/use_same_size_and_type]).
  • Install the filter with airflow arrows pointing the right direction ([fact missing: Air filter replacement/install_with_airflow_arrow_direction]).
  • Disposable filters: [fact missing: Disposable air filters/replacement_frequency].
  • During high-use seasons: [fact missing: Air filter maintenance (high-use seasons)/clean_or_replace_frequency].

2) Maintain free outdoor coil airflow

  • Keep clear space around the outdoor unit so air can flow freely.
  • Do not plant flowers or shrubbery right next to the unit.
  • Do not stack anything against the sides of the unit or drape anything over it.
  • If snow and ice accumulate, clear snow from around the outdoor unit as soon as possible.

3) Clean the finish

  • Regular cleaning: [fact missing: Outdoor unit finish cleaning/cleaning_method].
  • For stubborn grease spots: [fact missing: Outdoor unit finish cleaning/stubborn_grease_spots_method].
  • Avoid lacquer thinner and other synthetic solvents.
  • Coastal regions: a [fact missing: Coastal region outdoor unit care/fresh_water_rinse_frequency] fresh water rinse is recommended.

4) Additional routine maintenance

  • Have your system inspected [fact missing: Routine maintenance inspection/inspection_frequency].
  • Ask about preventative maintenance agreements that cover [fact missing: Preventative maintenance agreements/covers].
  • Optional extended warranties are also available.

Product registration & warranty terms

  • Registered Limited Warranty terms are available if the product is registered within [fact missing: Product registration/deadline_days_after_installation] days of installation.
  • If the product is not registered within 60 days of installation, [fact missing: Product registration/if_not_registered_warranty_terms].
  • Product registration can be completed [fact missing: Product registration/registration_method].

Florida residents (special note)

Beginning July 1, 2024:

  • Failure to complete product registration does not diminish any warranty rights or decrease the limited warranty length.
  • For residential property sales occurring on or after July 1, 2024, the manufacturer’s limited warranty is still in effect on the HVAC system (or a component of the system).

Indoor humidity & fan setting

If indoor air exceeds [fact missing: Indoor humidity threshold/relative_humidity_percent]% relative humidity (or simply feels uncomfortably humid), use the indoor fan only in [fact missing: Indoor fan setting/recommended_mode_when_humid] mode.

Safety warnings & cautions

  • Disconnect all electrical power before removing access panels, and disconnect power to both the indoor and outdoor units. There may be more than one electrical disconnect switch.
  • Improper installation, adjustment, alteration, service, maintenance, or use can cause serious hazards; consult a qualified installer or service agency for information or assistance.
  • If heating is not operational during cold weather months, take steps to prevent freeze-up of water pipes and receptacles, especially during times of vacancy.
  • Check and clean condensate drains periodically; if condensate cannot drain freely, water damage could occur.
  • Read and follow all instructions, warnings, and labels attached to the unit before operating it.
  • Use extra care around unit edges and when reaching into the unit.
